Description
Dialogue East-West is a fascinating and timely colloquy for brass band that explores the contrast and connection between cultures. Composed by Michael Carl Green (Composer-in-Residence of The Princeton Brass Band), the work prominently features the Timpani, which acts as a narrator between the agitated, bazaar-like “East” themes and the bright, triumphalist “West” themes. The middle section offers a mournful, hymn-like melody that builds to a wrenching tension before resolving into a tenuous concord. This is a sophisticated, contemporary work that invites the audience to reflect on the complexity of global influences and shared respect.
