Description
Way Down Blues is a gritty and soulful blues chart by the master of the style, Dennis Armitage. The piece is written as a Tenor Trombone solo (with an alternate Bb Euphonium part) and brass band. It features a deep, swinging “groove” and allows the soloist to explore the expressive “growls,” slides, and “blue notes” characteristic of the genre. The band accompaniment is rhythmic and punchy, providing a perfect jazz-club atmosphere. It is a fantastic solo showcase that brings a different stylistic edge to the concert stage.
Difficulty 4
(Medium) A level 4 difficulty rating brings very challenging rhythms to the piece. Syncopation will be freely used, as will the more extreme ranges for all instruments.
