The hauntingly beautiful and passionate Russian folksong Dark Eyes (Ochi Chernye) is expertly set for brass band by Hardy Schneiders. The arrangement captures the gypsy-inflected “accelerando” character of the original, starting with a slow, soulful melody that gradually builds into a wild and frantic finale. It features prominent roles for the bandâs most expressive voices and requires a high degree of rhythmic control from the entire ensemble.
