Description
“Paintings” is a substantial descriptive work by Derek Broadbent, commissioned by the East Anglian Brass Band Association in 1998. The piece is a musical triptych based on three famous paintings of East Anglia: View Near the Coast, Travellers, and William Wollaston. Derek Broadbent utilizes the rich tonal palette of the brass band to create vivid musical imagery, moving from atmospheric landscapes to rhythmic character sketches. This programmatic work demands technical precision and interpretive depth, making it a rewarding challenge for bands and an engaging experience for audiences. It is a professional and highly artistic addition to any modern concert program.
