Description
Horizons is an evocative and imaginative work for brass band by the renowned conductor and composer Philip Harper. The piece is a musical study in perspective, describing a grand procession that approaches from a distant horizon, gradually engulfing the listener in a wall of sound, before slowly disappearing over the opposite horizon. Harper uses clever dynamic shading and spatial effects to bring this concept to life. As recorded on CD 962-2, it is a fascinating and narrative-driven concert item that showcases the band’s control and expressive range.
Difficulty 5
(Hard) Arrangements with a difficulty 5 begin to introduce polyrhythm’s and asymmetrical meters. Changing meters are much more frequent and instrumentation may be more diverse, and include piano, harp, or unusual instruments.
